The smoke was back this morning. We have only
had two good smoke free days. We left
Redmond and drove to Plymouth, Washington.
We got a site at the Army Corps of Engineers Hood Park campground near the
Columbia River. After noon the smoke
cleared up because of the strong winds.
The check in lady at the park gave us site 16, but when we got there it
was occupied. Jim stopped and I walked
back to the nearby camp host we had just passed. I was walking down the paved road in the park and right smack dab
in the middle of the road was a rattlesnake.
I almost stepped on it. I was
screaming and no one was coming out of their RVs. The check in lady had realized her mistake and was coming to tell
us a new site number. She had me get in
the car and we went to get the host. He
went back with us just as Jim was coming back around to get into a new
site. The camp host used a grabber to
pick the snake up. He couldn’t get it
into a pail with a lid so he just walked it over to the nearby large field and
let it go. Jim took a picture and it
lunged at him even while the host had it on the grabber. We all jumped. The sound from his rattles was pretty, though. After sitting outside and relaxing with a
snack and drink, Jim and I went for a walk.
Jim watched the Cowboy game tonight.
