8/7/18 - Portland, OR

Today we drove to Troutdale, a suburb of Portland, and went to McMenamin's Edgefield.  McMenamin has a lot of breweries and pubs in the area.  Many of them are in historic buildings they have renovated.  This one was in a county poor farm built in 1911 later converted to a nursing home.  They have a vineyard, a brewery, and several bars on the property. We had a beer on the front porch. There was also a statue of Jerry Garcia.  Someone had put a joint in his mouth.

Then we drove up the Columbia Gorge via Historic Highway 30.  Part of the road is closed due to a fire but it took us as far as Crown Point Lookout/Vista House and to three waterfalls.  The main visitor attraction, Multnomah Falls, is also difficult to visit due to the road closure.  The parking lot on the main highway was full.  We saw it last time we were here in 2008, so we didn’t even try to deal with the parking situation.  On the way back we stopped at Rooster Rock State Park and used the Oregon park pass that I won.  We went to Baerlic Beer Company and Alameda Brewing.  After a quick stop at Walmart for a few things and a propane tank exchange, we returned to the Casita.  Today was National Night Out for every state but Texas and Florida. where it is in October.  The park had a gathering at the pool and had giveaways for the children (school supplies and a bag) and a drawing for other items.  They also had hotdogs and potato salad.
