Today we took a drive to Newberry National
Volcanic Monument. This time of year
they don’t allow cars to drive up to the top of the volcano and you have to take a shuttle bus. It was pretty clear this morning but in the afternoon the forest fire smoke started moving in from the south. Then we went back into Bend
and went to McMenamins Old St. Francis School.
This is another of the McMenamins sites that is in an historic
building. It was a Catholic school in
1939. It has been renovated to include
rooms for rent in the old classrooms.
It also has a soaking pool and a movie theater. The seats are couches. Then we went to Bend Brewing,
Boneyard Brewing and back to the Bend Brewers Festival. We talked to the brewery rep from Rogue who
we met at the BJ’s beer dinner in Eugene. The last stop before returning back
to the Casita was Sunriver/Galveston Pub.
Tomorrow we move south to LaPine State Park. Our brewery visits should slow way down now since we have are
finished with both beer festivals.
