This campground has a train track on the other
side of the Yakima River from the campground.
The train comes by even during the night. It doesn’t blow the horn
because there are no crossings on that side of the river but, the wheels make a
squealing sound on the rails. We went
to Jack-In-The-Box for breakfast and then to Single Hill Brewing. After a quick trip into Dollar Tree, we went
to Sarg Hubbard Park and got some steps.
They have a Merci Train here in the park. The French sent 49 of these railroad cars to the U.S. after WWII. They were filled with gifts and letters from
the grateful French people for the food and medical supplies the U.S. sent to
them. (You can read the picture of the
sign for more detail). They sent one for every state at the time, with Hawaii and
Washington D.C. sharing one. Then we went to Bale Breaker Brewing. This brewery
had a large hop field growing on three sides of it.
The Yakima Valley produces over 70% of the hops grown in America. Before returning back to camp we stopped at the Caribbean Casino and
shared a beer. They only had card
tables and didn’t have any slot machines.
We had leftovers for supper and Jim started the generator so we could use the computer and watch a little TV before bed.
