9/5/18 - Yakima, WA

I made steak and egg breakfast burritos with the leftover Tri-Tip steak that Jim grilled a couple of nights ago.  Yummy!  Jim needed the library again today so went to one in Yakima.  He updated the blog and I read magazines.  He was on the phone a lot until around 2 pm conducting business again.  Finally we got free and drove to Zillah, Washington.  There is a unique service station there we wanted to see.  It is called the Teapot Dome Service Station and was built in 1922.  In the early 1920s there was a political scandal involving oil leases. President Harding's Secretary of the Interior leased U.S. Navy Oil Reserves to a private party without competitive bidding and in doing so accepted bribes.  He was sent to prison.   This service station was built in the shape of a teapot in commemoration of the scandal.  Then we drove a couple of miles down to Toppenish to look at some of the town’s murals.  They have 78 murals commemorating the town's history and we visited 26 of them.  After driving around town to see some we drove back to Yakima and went to Wandering Hop Brewing and Valley Brewing.
